The Story Continues; and only gets better !

I absolutely enjoyed this book. From cover to cover it was non stop action with Captain Aubrey and Stephen getting into one situation after another, and then extracting themselves
with all of the flamboyance expected of a Post Captain and his distinguished Surgeon. As always, the style of prose appeared to be that of the 18th century and the historical accuracy of the period was appropriate for events and circumstances of the time frame. A fabulous book, but I am not sure if I would have enjoyed it as much if I had not read the first book to the series.

Way to much

The soft cover version is almost 500 pages long and is at least 200 pages too much. The first 100 pages has hardly anything to do with a naval story. Then there is a very brief segment of sea action followed by way to long dead sapce. Yeah wars are discribed as mostly boring periods followed by seconds of heart stopping fear, but I would have figured books wouldn't follow the same pattern. 2 stars just because the naval war sections are good.

A Great Sea Story

The Patrck O'Brian series are the best sea adventures since the Hornblower novels. Once one starts reading them, it's hard to stop until the final volume. The historic detail is incredible.
